Ipad2 Brownie & Cake

While the Adycen, Brycen and Lisa were here we celebrated Jared's birthday. I was making the wedding cake on his real birhday, so we decided to wait. This was a fun cake to do! Jared loves his ipad2, so we tried to recreate in in cake. For the base we did a 12 inch round yellow cake covered in brown marbled fondant. I wanted it to look like granite or wood.

Then there was the matter of the ipad cover- Jared's is a pale blue. So I took the cover and made and impression of it on some blue fondant and trimmed around it to make the cover. In this photo you can see the real one in the back ground and the fondant one on top of the cake (it has a hole in it! but it was going to get covered up anyway!)

 The ipad itself was made out of a very thin brownie, iced and covered in white fondant. Blue swirled fondant was layed down for the screen and then I called Jared and the kids in to make the apps. I loved how they all turned out. Most were hand painted - There's even Angry Birds!

Visit from Adycen

Later in July Brycen and Lisa brought Adycen for a visit. It was so fun to have them all here again. Adycen is getting so big. She loves to be a part of the action, so we got her the Bumbo seat. Here's a few pictures of her enjoying it:

 She enjoyed her seat, but also enjoyed being held! A lot! Good thing so many people wanted to do that! Sometimes though, she just fell asleep in the middle of everything! So cute!

 Lisa had made many a bow for this girl! Here's a few cute ones:

Something Blue

Here is the wedding cake we did last weekend -- This is 4 tiers, 12, 10, 8, and 6 inch. Two were a sour cream yellow cake and the other two were dark chocolate. We stacked this cake a little differently, slightly toward the back like a staircase. The flowers were white roses and blue delphinium. Ivy surrounded the silver base. The bride provided the topper of the Nauvoo Temple, where they were sealed last Friday. I put a small round LED light in it, so it glowed from within. My favorite part was the trim on top of this beautiful blue ribbon. The reception was gorgeous-- and I was honored to be asked to make the cake! Here's a few photos:

Anniversary Cake

Lisa, Brycen and Adycen are here visiting. This is the cake we made for Brycen and Lisa's first anniversary this past Sunday. We found this pretty filigree hearts ribbon in black and red to go around the tiers. I also tried a quilted pattern on the middle tier. Tonight we are babysitting Adycen so they can go out to eat and celebrate! Happy Anniversary!

2011 Graduation Sheet Cakes

Here are the cakes I did for Emilee's graduation. We did 2 sheet cakes that were 12 x 18. One also had a round tier on top. The caps are made from Mini Reese's Peanut Butter cups and Ghiradeli Squares chocolates. Sweet! Congratulations Emilee!

Job Shadowing

Madison has been doing a career exploration unit at school recently. They have been writing resumes, learning about different jobs they are interested in and doing mock interviews. Last week she had the wonderful opportunity to go job shadowing. She chose to job shadow with a registered dietician at the University of Missouri Health Care System. She had a great day, learning all about the job and what it takes to get into the field of health and wellness. She experienced their menu development meeting. She also got meet with college interns working toward their degrees. There was a supervisor there that said when Madison is 16 she could come back and get a job! Thanks so much to our friend Lorena who shared her knowledge and work with Madison! It was a great experience!
