Christmas 2009

Is it too late to blog about Christmas? The stockings were emptied, the tree has been put away, and the garbage truck finally came for all that wrapping paper trash! But if it's not too late, here's what we did for Christmas 2009. It was our year to travel home to Oklahoma for Christmas, and it was a white one. Who knew we would have thunder, lightening, and snow for Christmas in Oklahoma??

Before we left for Tulsa the girls opened their stockings and their main gift from us. Gabrielle, budding film producer, got a Flip camera. She has already taken some cute videos. Madison never expected that we would get her her own phone with texting. We wouldn't have had to do anything else. They were both thrilled to get these items. Gone are the days when a ball and a babydoll suffice! We have had to go high tech this year.








Our first night of our trip we spent with Jared's family at his brother's house. We had a fun night with pizza, presents, and fun games complete with prizes. These cousins just get cuter and cuter! Thanks Linda, Boyd & Rhonda for such a fun evening. The kids had a great time!







We spent Christmas Eve going out to lunch, shopping, and to the movies and out and about in the crazy weather. We had to eat at some of favorite restaurants, which was a challenge by evening. We finally found a Chinese place open (see previous post). The rest of the evening we watched the blizzard and thunder snow! We woke up to plenty of snow cover for the girls to play in. We opened presents at my mom's Christmas morning complete with cocoa. Later the girls went out to play. We had a wonderful dinner and relaxing day! Thank you Mom & Dad for everything. By the way, it was so much fun to have Ruby at your house, too. I am glad she got to stay.














Finally, the day before we left, the girls got to see their cousin Kennedy. They arrived back from their trip and were reunited with Ruby (their dog), Kennedy got to open his presents from the girls, and they played in the snow a little. They all slept well that night! So even though it was cold and snowy outside, our Christmas holiday was very "warm & fuzzy" inside.

My New Tradition

I think I have a new Christmas Eve tradition. We went to the movies this afternoon and when we came out it was sleeting. When we got home I made some sugar cookie dough and put it in the fridge to chill. We then started to think about dinner and where we were going to go. The first thought was for Spaghetti Warehouse, since it was close. It was starting to snow, still mixed with the sleet. Calling ahead to make sure they were not closing early for Christmas Eve, sure enough, the Spaghetti Warehouse was closing at 5pm (in like 10 minutes, at this point). Rib Crib? Closed-- Delta Cafe? Closed-- Charlie's Chicken? Closed-- Ron's Hamburger's and Chili-- not even answering phone at this point. So I asked my mom, what else do you have around close? Brilliant idea! CHINESE! My mom produces the take-out menu, I call them up. Me : "Uh, Hi-- I was just wondering what time you are closing tonight? Are you closing early?" Chinese girl: "Oh, noooo-- we open until ten!" All righty then, let's here it for the Chinese!

It was great, we were the only ones sitting down to eat, most other people were getting it to go (dashing through the snow!) They were playing Christmas songs only in a funny pop style Chinese music. They did have Christmas lights up (loved the ice cream cone lights) and my fortune said, "You will have a five star day tomorrow." So my new Christmas Eve tradition is to go out and have Chinese food. Me and all the Jewish people.

Christmas Seals

We received a Christmas card from a friend of ours with these darling Christmas Seals from the American Lung Association. She has them on her cards every year, but this year's are so adorable! I liked them so much that I went on the website to look at the different designs they have had through the years. It is an interesting history! Going Rogue

So we saw something funny today-- wish I had the picture of the actual thing! Someone who once had the McCain-Palin bumper sticker (most intelligently placed over their brake light) had sliced through the sticker, peeled off McCain's name and leaving the lone Palin. As if to say to the world, "I don't want anything to do with you anymore Senator McCain, but I do still love that Sarah Palin." I am thinking they need to go to Wal-mart and get themselves some mailbox number stickers saying 2012. That would really top it off!

Then there were some parents of Columbia school children who were ANGRY that their child's school was selling notebooks and pencils out of a vending machine that had a logo similar to the one used in Obama's campaign. How dare they brainwash our children like that? LOL!
